Revel Hobby Horse Games

From ancient times thru the middle ages, Hobby Horses were a common form of entertainment. They took the place of honor at May Day, and had their roles at Christmas, New Years, and Twelfth Night in England and Ireland.
They ranged from the very simple, a stick with the resemblance of a horses head on one end; to the very elaborate, three dimensional fully caparisoned with a moveable lower jaw and sharp iron teeth!
You may be asking, “Why is Companion Oso telling me this?” It’s because you still have time to make your own hobby horse to enter in the Hobby Horse Games at this years September Revel!
Are there rules? Just a couple. Your hobby horse must represent a horse (parrots, lions, tigers, bears are another competition). It does not have to have a stick, but you should be able to ride with one hand so you can wield a weapon with the other. You must be able to control your Hobby Horse at all times, and biters and kickers are required to have a red ribbon tied on their mane and tales, as are stallions. Unruly or unsafe horses will be given a time out until the rider has them under control.
Age limitations? No way, children of all ages are encouraged to participate, and there will be separate divisions for the younger ones to avoid trampling. There will be races and a challenge course themed “On the way to Dregate Revel”.
I will happily marshal these games, and will need the usual help with ground crew, scorekeepers and water bearers. Let me know if this is something you’d like to help with.
There will be prizes for top scores and one for the best dressed (decorated) Hobby Horse.
So, get out those old brooms and your creativity, and create a Hobby Horse that will begin a new Dregate Tradition!

 In fun and friendship,

Oso Ujin
